2016 NEWS LETTER

Dear Lauffer family and friends,

It’s time for us to start thinking about this year’s reunion, which is scheduled for August 21, 2016. We will be enjoying our traditional Sunday gathering at the Westmoreland Conservation District barn, Greensburg, PA, preceded by our Saturday night dinner at Rizzo’s Italian restaurant in Crabtree, PA. Meeting times and other information can be found on page 3 of this newsletter. Our annual business meeting will follow lunch on Sunday.

On the agenda for this year’s business meeting is the election of a new slate of officers, individuals willing to take on the responsibilities of carrying on the annual reunion. This tradition started more than one hundred years ago, and sometimes it feels as if the current officers have organized these events for the same hundred years.

It has been a truly rewarding experience for all involved, however we are now looking to the younger members of our family to volunteer to take over some of these duties. Without volunteers, unfortunately these wonderful family events could cease to exist.

Please think about it. Do you really want the reunions to end?

Listed below are the positions which will be open. Please read over the very manageable list of responsibilities for each and consider offering your time to fulfill some of these duties.

OPENINGS FOR LAUFFER REUNION COMMITTEE POSITIONS

PRESIDENT:

Conducts the general meeting and the business meeting.

General meeting responsibilities include the opening welcome, the prayer, and the announcement of lunch.
Business meeting responsibilities include preparing an outline of the subjects to be covered, and presenting the topics to those in attendance. (Topics for discussion might include: reunion projects, announcements of family events, news, etc.)

Calls the meeting to a close.

REUNION COORDINATOR:

Makes reservations with the Westmoreland Conservation District for our reunion to be held on the third Sunday of August.
Makes reservations for the Saturday night family dinner at Rizzo’s.
Writes our annual newsletter for the website.

LUNCHEON COORDINATOR:

Orders the ham for the Sunday lunch, seeing that beverages, coffee and lemonade, are made.
Keeps the coffee pot and cooler, cups, etc.
Organizes the set up and flow of the food tables.

REGISTRATION FACILITATOR:

Greets guests as they arrive.
Provides name tags for all guests.
Asks guests to sign in and update all contact information.
When necessary, distributes informational handouts and/or collects money for items for sale (such as the Lauffer Barn Christmas ornaments).

As you can see, the responsibilities for each of these jobs are quite reasonable, however they are also essential for the reunion to continue. Please consider doing your part to to provide continued support to our Reunions.
